FSC
Certified Wood: Check the website this month
for an FSC Certified
Mahogany substitute called Eucalyptus
Grandis. This product is sustainably harvested
in Uruguay. Seeds are carefully chosen to keep a diversified
gene structure. They are planted and grown in nurseries so
that the trees can be well maintained before they are transplanted
to their final location. Fertilization and weed control is
strictly implemented to help in the trees growth. Careful
pruning is done as the trees get bigger to allow the tree
to grow so that there will be little to no defects in the
boards the logs will produce. When the trees are big enough,
horses and cows are brought in to help the undergrowth around
the trees to alleviate the use fossil fuels which allows for
a safe and clean environment for the trees to grow. This shows
the adequate use of forestry resources applying to specific
management of economic, social and environmental aspects.
The trees are then harvested and milled using the latest equipment
for a more efficient and wasteless operation. The lumber is
then kiln dried and shipped around the world.
This product will be made available upon
request as well as other FSC Certified products, please feel
free to contact_us
if you have any questions.

Custom
Molding Capabilities: Do you ever run across
renovation projects where you need to match certain moldings
in an old home? A lot of old homes have custom moldings that
are not generally used in today's industry. Here at Bailey
Wood Products, we offer our services to replicate custom moldings
to accommodate your needs. We have recreated a few window
casing profiles as well as some custom crown moldings. Also,
if you have an idea for a custom profile unique to you, we
would be willing to take a look and see what is possible.

Flooring
Over Radiant Heat: Radiant heating is a growing
source of heating in North America, both in residential and
commercial installations.
Radiant heat is "omni-directional", meaning it tends
to radiate heat energy in all directions, unlike conventional
forms of heating such as baseboard convectors or forced air
circulation.
The most important factor in a successful wood flooring installation
over radiant heat is a dry slab and a sub floor. The only
sure way to dry a slab and a subfloor system is to turn on
the radiant heat system before installing the wood flooring.
Some say the heating system should be turned on at least 72
hours before installation, with a preferred time of five to
six days. That assumes the slab has been in place for 60 days.
For a new slab, it is recommended to have the heating system
turned on for 30 to 60 days. If this is not done, moisture
left in the slab will enter the wood flooring as soon as the
heat is turned on. The results could be excessive expansion,
contraction, shrinkage, cupping or bowing.
It is also suggested when the heat gets turned on for the
first time in the fall to gradually bring it up to temperature.
This will allow the flooring to properly acclimate. The same
results as listed above could occur if this precaution is
not taken.
Not all species of wood are good for installing
over radiant heat. It is a good idea to choose a wood that
is well known for its stability. Quarter sawn or rift-sawn
flooring is preferable because the expansion and contraction
of the wood is more vertical with the face rather than horizontal.
Strip flooring is also a better choice because narrow boards
expand and contract less than wide boards do. For strip flooring,
it is recommended not to exceed 3 inches in width. Using narrow
boards also means there are more seams in a floor to take
up movement. As always, a good stable wood, such as walnut,
cherry, or oak should be used in this situation.
If you have any questions about this type
of flooring application, please feel free to contact
us.
Customer
Projects: This will be an ongoing project so
keep sending us your pictures. We need pictures for our customer
showcase. At the end of the month when a bunch of pictures
have been submitted, we will choose the project we think to
be the best one for the month. The person who wins will have
their name and photo of their project presented on the right.
The winner will also receive a Bailey Coupon to use towards
their next purchase.
All you have to do is send your pictures
to justin@baileywp.com.
Simply include your name, email address, and phone number
and Justin will take care of the rest. Thanks and good luck. |
